Just make it smaller than a blanket? I always start of like a blanket but then end it when it gets to the width I want. But I agree with one of the other answers. Go to the store and look at the lables on the yarn for a pattern for scarves and get an idea of how u want to do it.

If you can do a blanket, a scarf would be easy! Just make it very narrow.
just crochet a narrower and longer blanket and there is your scarf. I just don’t know how to stop I made the worlds longest scarf
