    Pick out a pattern you wish to use. It should tell you how much yarn you need and what size hook to use. Finally try to buy all of the yarn at one time from one dye lot number so you can be sure the color matches.

    One of the best patterns for a beginner is one called Granny Squares. It is a classic and because you make a bunch of squares and them put them together, if you mess up one square, you haven’t lost a lot and you can use a lot of colors if you want.
