How to change colour in midlines without knots.

I have medium weight ( recommended 5.0 mm hook) wool yarn. I’m looking to make a scarf around 15 stitches wide. I’d also like it to be fairly easy, as I am a beginner. Can anyone help?

I am currently in the hobby/business of crocheting scarves. I don’t have a problem when I am working on the length by width-ways stitches (basically just working rows of 3 to 5 inches at a time and continuing until the scarf is at the desired length). However, certain patterns, like the 79 inch skinny scarf I’m currently attempting, require to crochet it the opposite way. When I do a 270 chain then get into the first row, I notice that the edge of the chain is not perfectly straight, but waves.

I do my best to keep my stitches consistent, and this seems to happen regardless of the yarn type I use. They are not too tight or too loose of a stitch, but somewhere in between. Is there anybody who has a suggestion on how I can keep the length edges straight and not wavy?
